Ironman 2012

We had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of getting to serve for the 2012 Ironman World Championships!
If you have never heard of Ironman, then you are missing out on some incredibly, amazing athletes!
Ironman is the most well-known endurance event in the world.
It's pretty much an insane triathlon.
There were athletes from 60 different countries, varying from ages 18-80.
866 Athletes were from the U.S.

It kicked off at 6:00 a.m. with a 2.4 mile swim

The picture below is where the athletes had to swim out to

Below are the "amateur" athletes, patiently waiting for their turn after the pro's began their swim
There were 54 Pro Men
31 Pro Women
1,089 First Timers

There were heaps of paddle boarders, kayaks, canoes, boats, jet ski's and helicopters making sure all the swimmers were safe
These videos give you an idea of what the atmosphere was like!

Definitely worth being up at 5:00 am for!

After the athletes completed the swim, they then transitioned into the bike phase!
112 Mile bike ride

Just the beginning...
One thing that was pretty legit, was as night fell the runners were projected up on the hotel!
Such a blessing to be right at the finish line -
Watching these amazing athletes finish their last leg-
26.2 Mile Run
Below is winner Pete Jacobs from Australia! With a time of 8:18:37!
Leanda Cave from Great Britain won for the women with a time of 9:15:54!

Fun fact: There was $607,000 in total prize money!
$800,000 got given to Kona!
Such a blessing.
My dear friend Steph & I after our volunteer shift!

We had the best job out of anyone, hands down.
We were not at the "finish line", but back stage welcoming and congratulating every single athlete as they went from the finish line to the security area.
The security area consisted of medical assistance, massage tent, medals, chip returns and their happy happy families waiting for them!
We were so privileged to be able to welcome them, I was in awe.
It was pretty awesome shaking their hands, being able to congratulate them after such an enduring day.
One of them stopped, kissed our hands and thanked us for serving him - it was pretty rad in my book.

If I could meet anyone famous, any athlete, musician, or royalty in the world I don't think it'd top this day. These were athletes to the core, and I was so encouraged and inspired!
It was ironic that a couple weeks before I started running again, oblivious to the Ironman coming up, and then after seeing the endurance their bodies could handle, I definitely would love to do a triathlon or simply continue running!

This amazing athlete completed the running portion (26.2 miles!) in his Firefighter Gear!

There are many more incredible stories of athlete's competing for a cause, do some research and read their amazing stories!

The 2012 Ironman World Championship telecast on NBC Sports will air on Saturday, October 27th from 4pm ET to 6pm ET (Check your local listings)!

So, that's pretty much my epic update from Ironman. Love it! :)

Week 3 *Music*

Ok! So we just got done with our third week of lectures, crazy!
We had corporate lectures this week, so instead of 21 students we were mixed among the other 7 DTS's currently going on. There was at least 500+ people, intense. Our topic was I believe YWAM DNA/Holy Spirit.

I had a lot of work to get done during the lecture, so I didn't really have any break thru's, revelation's or good notes. However! We had the most amazing guest worship band ever! We generally have corporate worship on Monday mornings, this week tho we were blessed to have it every morning, led by an amazing group of people totally on fire for God!

Jonathan David Helser is the band.
Definitely worth listening to.

This is prolly one of the most contagious bands I've been around.
Jonathan and Melissa are a husband-wife duo, along with their amazing band, that bring such a presence to the room you can't help but scream, jump and totally worship with your whole heart!

Melissa was one of the most raw and powerful worship leaders I've ever been around.
Her voice was beautiful, but the words she proclaimed were so powerful and true.
She wasn't acting. She wasn't worrying about anything. She was so free.
Nothing seemed rehearsed with her.
Her words and actions were so spirit led, I've never been inspired more.
I was literally jealous of her on stage because I wanted what she had SO bad.
I was just mesmerized by the beauty of everything she did.
Her husband was pretty epic too, beautiful voice, just real. Refreshing.

One thing I've learned I love about worship songs: When they repeat the same truth over and over and over again.
I never really recognized this, but in retro-spect almost every song I absolutely love is super repetitive.
This week, one song they sang daily is called "You're Never Giving Up"

"Your love, it never fails
It never ends
Your love, it never quits
It never stops chasing my soul

You're never giving up
You're never giving up
You're never giving up on me...

Set me free..."

Simple.
I've just learned there is such power in this style of music. You don't have to have hymns, or amazing lyrics, but simply meditate on the truth. When you repeat and meditate on it your mind starts understanding it in ways it generally wouldn't. Your heart starts to grasp the truth.
You can relax.
Focus on God.
Let the Holy Spirit move.
Close your eyes and speak to Him.
It's so powerful.

I just wish I could put all of their lyrics on here because they are so impacting.
I definitely would encourage you to check out their music, follow them on Twitter/Facebook, their blog, iTunes, anything!
They have some pretty rad one liners too, that just make you think.
Very wise group of people, definitely left an impression on my heart.

You can go on their website, click Media, then click Music Player, and listen to their music for free.
And then, once you've got a taste of what they're like, definitely $upport them if you want their music!

Even if you don't like worship music, it's just beautiful, chill music :)

A few awesome quotes from the week:

"My dad (Abba) is God of the angel armies"

"Who the son sets free, he is free indeed"

"There's no end to the affection you have for me"

"Whenever Jesus shows up at funerals, He ruins funerals"
(This is epic, in context of Lazarus being raised from the dead)
**Resurrection**

I AM THE DREAM OF GOD

Child Analogy.

Have you ever had those "Ah-ha" moments? Where the light bulb clicks on, even if you've seen or heard something for the hundredth time? In our daily lives it's so easy to overlook the simplest joys!
Well God revealed a wonderful thought to me the other day... While I was in the public restroom :)

So, I walk into the restroom near O'Hana Court and see this woman kneeling down, with her arms around these two beautiful blonde girls, prolly 3 years old? The woman is watching over them so the mother can have a short break and use the toilet! I hear the woman talking to the girls .. "You're so beautiful." "Your dress is pretty." "You are such a good girl."

Now, I love kids and have been around heaps in my lifetime! How common is it to hear someone saying positive, uplifting, good words to a child!? Extremely. But for some reason, it was a revelation in my mind.

I thought to myself, those aren't even that women's children? Why is she comforting them? Why are we so kind to children, especially other people's? How often do you hear someone saying to a child "You're ugly." "Nobody wants to play with you because you're mean." "You are bad."
(Thank the Lord we don't hear that, but go with it)

And I heard God say "You are my child." "I think you're beautiful." I smiled.
God said, "That girl today that was annoying you, she's my daughter too."

And BAM! Revelation!

We are all God's children, yes? Why is it so easy for us to speak negatively of one another, to judge based on outward appearances, to not want to give the time of day to some people?? God is Abba, our Father - we are all related. You wouldn't think to go up to a child and say something negative or hurtful! You wouldn't push a child down or ignore a child standing all alone.
Why do we feel we can do that to God's children?

I'm sure you've heard the terms "God's children" - "God is our Father" - etc.
But really, ponder this for a moment.

The next time you see someone struggling, help them.
You see someone crying, comfort them.
You see someone obviously confused/alone, give them guidance.
You see someone has body issues, tell them they're beautiful.
You see someone smiling, rejoice with them.
You see someone in need of help, lend a hand.
Walk in the opposite spirit people.

Don't be selfish, thinking of your needs, what works best for you, what you'll get out of it. Screw those thoughts! We are all wonderfully and perfectly made and deserve to know this truth.

Live in love.
Truly.
Unity.

Proverbs 16:24 "Gracious words are a honeycomb - sweet to the soul and healing to the bones!"
If you think negative thoughts a lot, rebuke them in the name of Jesus!

-Think about it-

Week 2 - 1 Week Ago

So, I have been WAY too busy to find time for blogging! Gonna have to figure out a time to sit down and do this more often. We currently wrapped up our third week of lectures, however, I am going to jump back in this post to catch you up to speed! So, the information here pertains to week 2 :)

Staffing a school is probably the most busy I've been in my entire life. Wake up around 5:15 a.m. and literally go, go, go, go, go, go until after 8 p.m. and then try and find time to be social on campus with our school, respond to text messages, work on USANA, try and think about blogging, find personal quiet time, etc. Pretty crazy.

I absolutely love it tho. At times it can be very overwhelming because just when you think you'll have a short time to yourself, another meeting is announced and off you go! However, once you get used to the expectations and demands, you learn to just go with it. Put your "needs" aside and help in any way you can! I knew staffing this school would be crazy busy, however, I didn't realize just how much work went on outside of the classroom as well as inside.

I have been given the job of "Hospitality" - meaning figure out the budget for food, do the grocery shopping, plan out snacks, prepare food/drinks, clean classroom before and after class, maintain our patio area, constant dishes, etc. Basically make sure everything is stocked, prepared and perfect.  It seems pretty simple, ya? Well, being a perfectionist I assure you it isn't so simple :)

I also have 4 work duty girls that help me from 3-5 p.m. every afternoon, so I have to make a schedule for them, and apparently delegation is NOT one of my strengths! I have learned a lot about myself lately, especially the fact that I do everything on my own and don't necessarily like to ask for help.
It's bad enough to be doing everything out of my own strength and wanting everything my way - but I got pretty convicted about not even leaning on God for anything! No wonder it was so hard!

(The Message) Proverbs 3:5-12
"Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do,
everywhere you go;
He's the one who will keep you on track.
Don't assume that you know it all.
Run to God, run from evil.
Your body will glow with health,
your very bones will vibrate with life!
Honor God in everything you own;
give Him the first and the best.
Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over.
But do not, dear friend, resent God's discipline,
Don't sulk under His loving correction.
It's the child He loves that God corrects;
a Father's delight is behind all this."

Pretty much speaks right at my face.

I find it more stressful to plan a job for each of the girls than to just do it all myself. I am also learning that isn't helping others at all! It feels pretty crappy when you do something and someone instantly criticizes, fixes, or changes it. Apparently, I'm that person. God is definitely stretching me in this season ! After the stretching I am so grateful and feel like the blinders have been removed, however, DURING the stretching period I feel so annoyed, bitter, and bad. I'm so thankful tho to have such a loving Father that loves to teach me and understands my mess up's! Praise the Lord.

On another note.. I got baptized again!

The beautiful Andrea, Renee and Stephanie

Being baptized in the ocean by
Mr. Kenny Peavey!

I hadn't really planned on being baptized a second time, wasn't anything I'd given much thought to or even expected to be doing! But man, did the Holy Spirit do some work in me our second week of lectures! Kenny Peavey was our speaker and through his spirit lead teaching we were all pretty much rocked.

I basically just wanted to re-commit my life to Christ. I felt when I first "accepted Christ" 5 years ago I was on fire, hungry for more and definitely changed my life around for the better! I enjoyed going to church, learning more about God, and taking many baby steps. Everything was going well. I then made the move to Wyoming, quickly connected with CMA (Christian Missionary Alliance, Church) and continued to live a life after Christ. I definitely grew a lot while living in Cody, then continued on to Australia to complete my DTS with YWAM. Thru YWAM I learned so much about God, heaven, spiritual warfare, the Bible and so much more - I fell in love.

Honestly tho, reflecting back, I felt as tho everything I had learned was simply "head knowledge" and not in my heart, I wasn't truly hearing what was being taught. I had learned so much over the years, seeking to be "that trusting Christ follower who loves Jesus", I'd tell anyone about Him and how He's changed my life, but I've been missing the simplest piece. I was trying, putting in the hours, asking God and not always listening or expecting an answer, I was doing, doing, doing and not receiving. I wasn't receiving the Love God so generously wants to lavish me with! I was "trying to please Him" to show Him I could do good and know what all the other Christ followers know! But that isn't what he wants. It doesn't impress Him.

He wanted me.
He wants me and me alone.
God wants to run away with me.
Imagine a girl in a field full of daisies, beautiful mountains behind her.
Blonde hair with the beautiful sun-kissed glow.
Spinning/dancing around and around, with no care in the world what she looks like because the one looking at her sees her as absolutely perfect.
The most beautiful woman He's ever seen.
Not wanting to change a thing.
Being swept off her feet and spun round and round.
She's not self conscience.
She's not worried.
There is no fear.
The biggest smile her face has ever shown.
Being deeply and madly in love.
Running freely, hand in hand.
Freedom.

THAT is how God feels about me. About you.

"There is no end to the affection YOU have for me"

"His Words are more real than the mountains behind us and the earth under our feet"

"Who the son sets free, he is free indeed"

For the first time in my life, I have felt this and truly understood it.
How many times has someone told you "Jesus loves you?"
It's such an amazing statement, but so many people don't take it any deeper, don't seek to find understanding. Sadly, it's as common as finding a penny on the ground; not life changing.
I have had a personal relationship with Jesus for the past 5 years, and have just now had revelation.
I had to let go of control.
I had to stop trying to figure every little thing out.
Stop trying to find out the "how's" and "why's" of everything, and JUST BE.

There's a reason for Psalm 46:10 "Be Still and Know That I Am God"
It's a simple fact.

This relationship Jesus is seeking is so simple.
It's not about how much you know, how much good you do, surprisingly, it's not even about you ;)
All Jesus wants is a relationship. He is Abba. Father. He wants to be present in all my decisions, conversations, everything I do.
Do you ever see how a father and daughter relationship works!? Not in silence, or guilt, or trying to always say or be who he wants.
It's laughter, love, conversation. Sure you'll have your up's and down's, a father disciplines out of Love.
We make it ridiculously harder than it has to be.
Ponder this for the day. And the next day.
Interesting, eh?

I want to encourage you to go to Amazon.com - Barnes & Noble - or some book store and pick up Joyce Meyer's "Tell Them I Love Them"
It's maybe 20 pages long? There are 7 chapters, one for each day of the week.

Super short reads.
Continue reading it day after day, time after time. See what's revealed in your Heart.
I'd love to hear how you're doing if you take this challenge.
Feel free to make my day better by updating me :)

I'm pretty stoked for what God's been doing in my heart and life. For the first time ever, I can literally feel Him hugging me. I can feel when He puts his arm around me when I need someone. It's the most uplifting, beautiful presence I've ever been around. I'm so thankful to know He's always near, He never has left me, forsaken me, or abandoned me. When it feels like all the world has walked out, how wonderful is it to know I couldn't do anything to make God leave my side.
That's true love.
And honestly, He loves every single one of His children this way.
And my dear friend, that includes you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love you all and thank you for taking the time to read my long blog posts! I always start them with the intention of keeping it short and sweet, but then my mind and hands just go! I hope that every person reading this will one day know the love God has for you. If you have any questions, I'd love to chat!

Joanna Beasley

I am so blessed to be able to share with you what my beautiful friend Joanna Beasley is up to! :)

I have known Joanna for close to 12 years now and God has totally rocked her world again and again!

She is one of those women that will make time for anybody, no matter how busy or tired she is! When she sits down with you, she actually listens, talks, loves to pray for you and ultimately connects.

She is so in love with God, that just a 5 minute conversation with her leaves you wanting to pursue God more and more, and grasp the love she pours out from our Father.

She is an absolute beauty and you can see the light shining within her.

She has spoken heaps into my life and the wisdom she has attained is insane. And simple.

She is such a role model to women everywhere, she is so happily married to the love of her life - Kerry - and wants to just connect with people and help 'em understand the LOVE of the Father.

She is definitely a role model in my life, and I'd love for you to follow her journey and get connected with her amazingness!

Oh, ya, and she's an AMAZING worship leader with a powerful voice, presence and gifting!

She and her band are releasing their 3rd album in March 2013! WOO!

Album: LOUDLOVE

Let me know if you have any questions!

Pictures, Pictures & More Pictures!

All of our students are here! The school has begun! I love it!
-To try and simplify the explanation of "Arrival Day" - "Registration Day" - "Welcome Ceremony" - and much more I am going to post pictures and walk you thru our busy weekend!-

Last Thursday was arrival day, and over 500 students flew onto the Big Island!

We had huge buses picking them up from the airport thru out the entire day!

There are multiple schools going on simultaneously, so they designate one day for everyone to fly in!

Once the students arrived they were escorted to Ohana Court for registration

Basically find your school and fill out paper work while being extremely jet lagged :)

So, Thursday from 8 am til after 10 pm we chilled in Ohana Court and welcomed many, many students. It was so amazing to see all the different cultures and nations flowing in and out all day, so lovely!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following morning we met bright and early to begin the Welcome Ceremony!

(This is my friend Stephanie - We did our DTS together last fall and are now staffing YWAM Ships together!)

Students fill in the center of our flag area and are welcomed by native Hawaiian's who say a blessing, blow their conch shell's and we then proceed to follow them around campus to Ohana Court.

YWAM appreciates all nations; to honor them they have a flag constantly flying from any nation representing a student or staff member on base.
It's beautiful when you're down at the beach and can look up and see all of these flags from town.

We currently have 48 flags being flown.

Like I said.. we then proceed to Ohana Court..

Once we were in Ohana Court we were welcomed by our pre-school children of the base!
They were lined across the stage and greeted us with a song :)

During this time each school was called forward to present their Welcome Gift.
All students were asked to bring a gift from their homeland to give to the natives as a thank you for allowing us to be on their land.

After a few speakers, everyone was dismissed into groups of about one-hundred to go to 5 different stations set up to give them an overview of campus and what is to be expected.

The first stop was Banyan Tree Cafe!

This is our cafe located on base - Very legit.

After this we proceeded to the Prayer Room.
Name obviously entails the purpose of this room, it is also a place for worship. (Music)

We then were led to an outside classroom to be debriefed a tad bit more!

Almost done! We then went to the Theater! Yes, there is a small theater located on this base!
Kona is a pioneering base for many, many areas - one specifically being the sphere of entertainment. The theater was built specifically to champion the creative community on the Kona Campus!

Media Advocacy nights are held here to allow students to watch videos on Social Justice and many other issues and allow group discussion afterward!
Also,  modern day films are watched with discussion held afterwards to discuss the way mainstream movies are shaping culture, to show Biblical views and ideas! I love it!

Back to Welcoming Ceremony... :)

We then returned to Ohana court for a few more guidelines!

Into the evening we had a Luau (hog roast!), enjoyed conversation and great grub!

After dinner we returned to Ohana Court for one last ceremony!

(Hang with me, I'm almost done!)

This was the most beautiful part of the day.
We got to experience dances from all the different continents of the world! It's so amazing to see how different everyone truly is - I don't feel like you can embrace the differences until they are right in front of your face.

We were opened with beautiful Hawaiian traditions - Music, dance and hula!

These young girls performed a beautiful Hawaiian dance

Native Hula dancers

After the Hawaiian traditions, the next number was from New Zealand; representing the Pacific Islands

Next dance represented the Pacific Islands as well

A touch of South America!

Taste of Asia!

A bit of Africa!

We also had a beautiful Mexican dance.
Somehow I'm missing Europe.. so my regards on that.
North America was represented by.. none other than the popular Christina Aguilera, one of her many songs. I missed that photo op.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After all these amazing dances, one by one flags were carried in by individuals of each nation currently residing on the Kona campus for this quarter!

We were then led in to corporate worship, which was amazing and beautiful!
What I love about YWAM is seeing how differently everyone worships! American's are so stiff! African's love to move! Islander's are loud and unashamed!
It's such a blessing to be in such diversity daily!

"Thank you Jesus"

"Gracias Jesus"

"All the nations, they will come
Holding broken chains above their heads
Singing 'We have overcome
by the blood of the Lamb' "

Amen.

Our night was then finished up by none other than Mr. Loren Cunningham (founder of YWAM)

Hearing the history of YWAM and U of N (University of the Nations) is full of miracles and blessing stories!
I will tell you more about that another day :)

Thank you for taking the time to read all this, truly, that was a lot!
