Dean Sherman. Day 3.

If you made it thru my day 1 notes, then you know that I missed day 2, so we have to jump straight to 3 :)

Blessings to you as you read this.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
((These notes jump right in to spiritual warfare..)

-How do you know if it is warfare or not?
*Don't assume negative things are demonic, and don't assume they're not.

-How do you keep from being an extremist?
Ask God.

-2 kinds of extremes in body of Christ.
1) Everything demonic.
2) Nothing demonic.
((Ask God.))

-When God shows you, it's the gift of discernment.
*Discernment: God showing you what's happening in Spirit world.

-Most common assumption, natural disasters.
*Don't assume, be led by the Spirit.
*Assuming is religious.
*Keep life = Let spirit lead/empower you.

-We thought we could do things with education and skill. First 3 generations were spirit led.
*Wait for Holy Spirit; Jesus' command.

-"Love isn't an energy, it's choice of personalities."

-Old Testament, God living His life thru system of relationship's thru Kingdom of Israel (God manifesting His life thru a community).
*When in good relationship, they ruled over (won victory) enemies.
*When in bad relationship their enemies ruled over them.

-Can't rule over enemies (spirit powers) if in bad relationship with God/others.

-Who can say one person won a battle because he was good with sword? (Old Testment) None.
*All battles are against spiritual power.

-OT (Old Testment) will see sermon God was trying to preach for 3,000 years
*Without Holy Spirit they couldn't win.
*Same true today.

-"30 years in Nazareth, why was it important for Jesus to come only to die on the cross?
Because you have to live in good relationship; He lived life of God everyday in human form.
Before He could subdue evil, He lived in good relationship with Father and people."
*Live life of God.
*Rule over/subdue evil.

-John 1:4 "In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind."
*His life was not sermons, teachings, miracles; it was the light.

-Before Jesus performed any miracles, he lived in good relationship with God.

-John 8:28 "..I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me." (Jesus.)

-Christianity 101: Listen to God.

-Have you been convicted of sin?
That's voice of God.

-Cross = Rule over (subdue)
Enemies, satan, death

-Evil power gets in thru human yielding only.

-Satan knew Jesus was Son of God, people and religious leaders hadn't figured it out.

-Death, evil, sin, after fall, God announces what He's gonna do.
Gen. 3:15 "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel."
*Seed = Injustice.
Reproduction of satan.
Reproduction of people.
We can bruise his heel, but he's gonna bruise our head.

-Jesus became human because seed of humans had to crush seed of serpent.
Now we crush head of serpent in Jesus name.
*God has done what he's gonna do to devil at the Cross. Now we have to do it in the name of Jesus.
*Why we have to learn spiritual warfare and practice it.
Romans 16:20 "The God of peace will soon crush satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you."

-Jesus is crusher because we have no power!

-(Dean) "is here this week to get us busy in the heaven lies."

-John 10:10 "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life."
*Heaven = Life; not one big worship session
*People want life, not to get saved

-Church is 'wrong', quit making all we have to offer is a worship service and Bible studies.
*He came so we could have life.
Greek: Life = Bio; undead, surviving, still breathing
Zoe; to the full
*Jesus died to give us life, not just forgiveness

-Sinners liked Jesus.

-Why do we think what we've got is going to offend or try to offend people??
*Look at our founder, people liked Him!
*Religious system (OT) was not good at relating, so what did Jesus do? Relate.

-Religious leaders (OT) wouldn't allow women/children in anything.
Jesus immediately allowed All.

-Eating with people = Identifying with a group
*Jesus ate with sinners.

-Jesus related for 30 years in Nazareth, and now we must do the same.
*He is who I am a disciple of.
*Relater, not a monk.

-Occasionally Jesus went out alone, exception but not a rule.

-"Jesus didn't have to give up relationship's with humans to have good relationship with God."

-1 John 4:1 "And He has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters."

-People think relationship with God will cost you relationship with people... Not true.

-Vow of silence = No relationship with humans
Has NO roots in Christianity
*Jesus was not a monk.
*Jesus was social and holy, why can't we be?
If we're not, it's not spirituality, it's social awkwardness.

-Jesus lived whole life in community.
First with family.
Second with disciples.
*Ministry ended on a cross.
1 John 3:8 "But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the son of God came to destroy the works of the devil."
(Works of devil: death, sin, injustice, hate, poverty, violence..)
*Glory, we want those things broken.

-After living life of God, He ruled over
*Now we have abundant provision of grace.
'I have abundant divine ability, a gift of righteousness and will reign in life'

-Reign over divorce, racism, injustice, murder, children being molested every 4 minutes.

-Rule, subdue, reign = My purpose.

-Romans 5:17 "For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ."

-Things are happening in power spirit, we rule over with Holy Spirit.
*Inevitably in Spiritual Warfare.

-"You think devils gonna leave you alone because you haven't heard this subject yet?"
-"Enemy was working at your mom to abort you, he never wanted you to take a breath.
Ever wonder why our generation has a deep seeded anger? We're angry because half our generation didn't get here.
-Went in to a waste basket in a hospital.
-Greatest holocaust in history on planet.
-Can't get over this junk with a sign in a street yelling! Now what're you gonna do Christian church?"

-Spiritual warfare is not a flesh and blood warfare.

-Live according to kingdom (system of relationships).
Kingdom: being related to a particular king and being related to other people related to same king.
i.e. American, related to our government, also related to all other U.S. citizens

-John 3:8 "The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

-Kingdom is way of living.

-"Church is who I am. Kingdom is how I live."

-Kingdom; rule of King Jesus.
*Related to all born again.

-Only one other way to live.
Don't live according to kingdom, you live according to the world.
Not possible to live for both.
Love = Kingdom.
Selfishness = World.

Kingdom - Love, relationship to God and others
World - Selfishness, even if born again

(The chart below was parallel when taught, however, due to my blog I can only split it up into sections. So I'll do Kingdom first, World second, but know they run parallel to one another.)
*It matters how you live Today.

Kingdom

-Serving
-Submission
-Humility
-Generosity (giving, receiving)
-Justice
-Integrity
-Wholeness

World

-Controlling (not God's character; think God's a controller so people control; God isn't a controller because he let you sin; he doesn't control you he lets you choose; someone chooses every 14 seconds to molest a little girl)
-Rebellion
-Pride
-Greed (economic mess; it isn't just the question are you saved? ar)
-Injustice
-Corruption
-Brokenness

Read Revelation 21.
(healing of nations.)

*The way you live becomes a channel for spirit power*

*Read Isaiah 61.
Putting brokenness on television makes it seem normal. It's not.

Kingdom
1 Corinthians 4:20 "For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk, it is living by God's power."

Kingdom Dynamics:

1 Cor. 2:12 "And we have received God's spirit (not the world's spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us."
**World is a spirit
-All behaviors channel spirit power; spirit of the world
-2 Spirit powers in universe
-Important to know what you have or don't have
-I do NOT have the spirit of the world
"I'm only human" "Nobody's perfect" "I'm a new believer" (excuses)
Romans 6:6 "We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin."
-People make excuses because that's what they think they still are!
-Sinners dead; I'm a new creation!
-Not a sinner, but a saint.

World
1 John 5:19 "We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under control of the evil one."
-Not planet earth
God's in control of earth, satan is in control of way of living
Psalm 24

-Don't wait and think Spirit of God will come upon you one day when you're older.. Study the Bible.

-So there are two ways to live. Kingdom or World.
Everyone will live out one of these ways today.

-Church's mistake: We've functioned with education and skills only, never God's intention.
Run the church naturalistically.
*How to be a pastor?: Go to school
Jesus: Wait for Holy Spirit
Jesus has a better idea because He is head of church :)

Kingdom

-Romans 14:17 "For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
eat/drink=natural

World

Ephesians 6:12 "For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places."
(Forces of dark world; system, greed, injustice, immorality, pride, etc. World spirit)

-Church history: fighting each other
(wars, crusades, battles)
i.e. Conquistadors: Cross in one hand, sword in the other, die or become a Christian. Forced.
i.e. Why is so much witchcraft in Brazil when it's such a Christian place? Ho-kum-ba (witchcraft)
Because they were forced to be Christians but secretly kept other gods.
*Overlaid gods indigenous people had with what Christians wanted
i.e. Every Mexican wedding blessed with blessing of Lady of Guadeloupe.
She is a female diety ever since Aztecs were there, Catholic Christians mixing with other gods.
They were forced.
*God is not a controller.
Revelation 3:20 "Look I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends."
God knocks.

-God, enemy, Kingdom, sin, evil --> Spirit
They that worship God must do so in spirit; truth, reality
*God is spirit, they that worship Him must worship in spirit

-Christianity = In the Spirit

Ephesians 6:18 "Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere."
~Not biblical to pray unless in the spirit because God is a spirit.

-Do you see what satan has done to church?
he's kept us functioning in natural realm
*"Many Christians have never flown an arrow into spirit realm."
*Praying 'enemy I resist you in Jesus name'

-Today, there is more prayer, books, bigger churches, more worship, BUT statistics on crime, poverty, rape, abortion are going up & up & up.
*We're not changing society
*We are content with "Oh, wasn't that a wonderful meeting" when nothing in statistics are changing!
*TEACH on Spiritual Warfare! That's what changes the planet!

-In Papua New Guinea, Dean explained how they worshipped, sang, marched, danced, were crazy worshippers, abandoned to God twenty-four-seven, committed to Jesus, sold to God.. And saw healing daily.
(Blind seeing, crippled walking, healing of Jesus day happen today)

-Stats aren't changing because we aren't dealing with forces of darkness deliberately/aggressively.
*Eph. 6:18 'pray hard and long' is hardly in the spirit.
Shows how theological world has been influenced by naturalistic thinking.
*Enemy is spirit.

-How can you win over an opponent if you've never been there?

-Dean told us he would ask his classes how many have never said I resist you satan in the name of Jesus, and 90% of students would raise their hands.
We have to know how to fight.

-Giving too much power and too much glory to satan.
*Resist enemy personally with faith

-Dean had an awesome analogy..
Imagine a soccer field.
How many goals can a team make on a field with no opponent?
As many as they want.
*How many goals is satan making?
Unthinkingly we say 'God is still on the thrown', while satan really is killing and destroying people.
*Take a team to the same field (opposition), slow the other team down and they will stop making goals.
*A.k.a. Stop just having meetings and get active!
Go out into the field (Yes, America too, not just foreign countries!) and DO spiritual warfare.
Spread the Love of Jesus.
Bare His Image.

1 John 3:8 "But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the son of God came to destroy the works of the devil."
*In the name of Jesus take victory of cross and resist.

-How you live becomes a channel for spirit power.

-Spirit moves to and thru humans according to their yielding.

-Holy Spirit and evil spirit move totally thru human yielding.
i.e. Haiti. Voodoo sends out evil spirit that quenches movement of God's spirit and prayer channels Holy Spirit flow which quenches Spirit of voodoo and enemy.

-Why would God fill you with Holy Spirit just to sit?
*We aren't spirit like water in a bottle (which just sits).
We are spirit filled like a hose.
(Picture this)
Spirit doesn't just sit in me, flows thru me to 'water the flowers'.
We yield ourselves to the capacity of the flow.
Not a container, a channel.
When do you turn water on?
When hose is pointed towards something that needs water;
I 'use' the Holy Spirit when I am pointed towards someone that needs hope.
I am filled so I can 'water the flowers', not filled just to be filled.
Holy Spirit doesn't just reside in me, He flows thru me for others.

-"When I meet a need and I reach out in faith, hose is tapped on to water the flowers"
*A spring cannot do fresh and salt water at the same time, yielding to one or the other.

-Holy Spirit has value; to heal the sick, not just for people to be filled.

-Stick with practicality of ministry.
Whatever needs to be done to help people/change society can be done thru the Holy Spirit.

-Neither me nor teachers can explain infinite God.

World
2 Corinthians 4:4 "Satan who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God."
*enemy is of the world, not the planet.
*satan is god of the system

-Our minds are the biggest battleground for spiritual warfare.

-"Sad churches think 'who has a demon, let's cast it out'; why would he waste a demon on you when satan can control your mind?"

-(Dean's belief) "satan/demons talk to every human mind, everyday."
"Since my age (Dean), I've counseled people daily, all over the world, all diversities/cultures/backgrounds, and I hear the same things. Realized satan is talking to human minds. Know its satan because it's the same things."
*Analyze your thoughts
*Learned certain things satan says to you
*Are your thoughts from God? Fear, division, strife..
2 Corinthians 10:5 "We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ."

-Take captive every thought.
From where? Why?

-One of the biggest areas of wrong thinking: Wrong thoughts about God.

-2 Cor. 4:6 "For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ."
*We have supernatural darkness in our minds.

-2 Cor. 4:4 "satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God."

-My argument is never enough.
People are supernaturally blinded.
Supernatural light is the only answer to supernatural darkness.

-2 Cor. 4:4 is why spiritual warfare is always necessary in presenting truth.

-We have to pray in the spiritual realm.

-More specific/intentional you pray, the more faith you exercise.
Pray against spiritual darkness and for spiritual light.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

SO.. that gives you a glimpse into what our school learned in 2 days.
As I said, you may or may not agree/disagree with these notes.
But, it's food for thought.
Don't take everything I say as absolute truth.
Take it to the Bible.

Discipleship Training School's are the absolute best things to happen in my walk with Christ.
Getting to learn the intricate ways of our Creator, digging deeper into The Word, and being able to learn the simplicity of being a Christ Follower and being able to take it into the nations... I love my job.

Dean Sherman. Day 1.

Be prepared.
This post is directly from my notes, you may or may not be able to follow!

We had Dean Sherman speak on our school last week, and MAN.. did he bring it!
He spoke on my DTS as well, however, we had a DVD recording that we watched.
Here in Kona, we got the Live Dean Sherman.
His topic: Spiritual Warfare.

You may or may not have heard of Spiritual Warfare.
You may or may not believe in Spiritual Warfare.
You may or may not agree with things in this post.
So, be open minded, feel free to ask me questions.
Enjoy learning about God's Kingdom.
I love this stuff :)

((Slight overview, a beginning note/topic/sentence begins with
 -->   -
If there is a
-->   *
that is still on same thought
You'll understand as you read.))

((Also, I have 24 pages worth of notes, from day 1 and day 3 alone. I had a meeting on day 2, so will be listening to the podcast to put notes up in the near future.
So for today, day 1 of notes.))
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

-Why does YWAM start with DTS'?
*Because "we want to train our lives more than our heads"
(i.e. DTS has lecture phase, followed by outreach)

-Discipleship training is a life training.

-What was God thinking when he created humans?
Genesis 1:25-26 NIV
"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

1:27-28
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

*God created humans to manifest his likeness and image.

*Manifest nature/image/character/glory of God.

-What is God's image?
*Love, holiness, goodness
His Character is always loving.

-Love is not opposite of anger.
*There's no opposite with God.
Even wrath and judgment are His love; His unchanging character.

-God's nature: almighty, all powerful, unlimited in abilities.

-Sovereign = no limitation.

-God says, I'm gonna make man like me; meaning His character and nature.

-He made us for relationship.

-Relationship is the most valuable thing in universe.
*Eternal
*God's image

-Never been a time in the past where there was not a relationship of some sort.
*Always has been relationship between trinity.

-God is relationship.

-"No solitary independent individual is the image of God."

-Image is male/female.

-Do 2 males form the image of God? No
Do 2 females form the image of God? No
*We were made from a male and female.

-Alone = State of being.
Independent = Attitude.

-We are here to live God's life.

-When I have good relationship with God and other's I manifest God's image.

-Way to manifest His image (likeness) is to relate well to God and to others, and that's glory.
(Read John 17)

-Relationship is the glory, not some type of cloud.

-Serve, care, get along with people.

-"Give God glory, get along. Love."

-Why are we here? For a manifestation of God's love.

-Why is God Almighty? Where did He get His authority? Is it power or is He just a tyrant?
Because of His Love.

-Love and relationships are what give you power and authority.

-If you respect your leaders, you do because they love, serve and care for you.
*That's why we honor God.
*"Worthy is the lamb that was slain"
*We give Him worth/honor/glory because he cared for us.

-Love leads to power.

-People you love and serve will respect your authority.

-Authority does not come from positions. We don't respect positions. We do respect/allow authority over us from those who love and serve us.

-Why are we here?
*Manifest His image
*Here to rule

-"Rule over all the earth."
*Eden was not all of earth, only one location. God said to rule over everything, which is necessary because satan was already here.
*We don't know if satan was/is a serpent or if it was just what he used to walk and talk through.
Read Revelation 12.

-Earth being destroyed/chaotic.. is this how God creates things?
No, he has complete order.
You know He has order through seasons, tides, sunrises, sunsets, etc.
(My notes say Gen. v 2?)

-Earth was without order.
Does God make darkness? No.
*Revelation says there will be no night, lamb will be the light, only time darkness exists is when there is no light.

*Adam and Eve were in Garden to rule over darkness.
Keep death out.
Keep disobedience and sin out.
We were created for spiritual warfare purposes.

-Spiritual warfare is the reason humans were put here, to rule over sin/darkness.
We are gate keepers/guardians.

-Games, movies, media can't leave supernatural "stuff" alone because it is there!
It is real.
*Thor is real, he's a demon.
This is not fiction.

*Demons dwell in darkness.
*When world was covered in darkness, God created man to cover all the earth.
*Eden = Kingdom of God.
Where I live, right now, expands borders of Garden of Eden, to fill the whole earth.

-Genesis 1:27-28 "... be fruitful and multiply.."
*Fill earth and subdue it; rule over; take authority over it.
We are here to subdue evil by manifesting life of God thru relationships.

-"If we are in good relations with God and others, we rule and subdue evil and expand (advance) the kingdom! When we have bad relations with others, we allow satan to rule in our place."

-"Good relation with God = Evangelism.
Good relation with others = Discipleship."

-Third biggest cause of children dying is not disease, it's being killed by their parents.
Does that sound like satan or God?

-"Leave off religious cliches and help people."

-satan is able to mess with people when we don't rule;
bad relationships/un-forgiveness/impatient/not unified/un-caring.

-Nothing is more important that relationship because it is eternal.

-Reason we take the time to introduce our speakers is to build relationship; has value.

-(*I love this) Relationship is as valuable as the two people who make up the relationship.
No human is a half.
They 2 shall become 1.
2 BECOME 1
2 + 1 = 3
3 = Image of God
Where is His image? Husband, wife, IMAGE.
BAM!

Person A + Person B = C (relationship)
Value + Value = Entity.

-Matthew 5
(murder and hate)
"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgement.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgement. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother, then come and offer your gift.
Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny."
(Words of Jesus)

*Why is murder serious? Because of value of human life!
*How can Jesus/Bible teach when you hate = Same thing as murder.
Relationship has same value as each of the two people who make it up.
Hating = Murder.
Hate kills a relationship.
As serious as taking an axe and killing one of the people.

-Nothing is more important than loving one another.

-"God blessed them.." - Blessing, presence and power of God comes to and thru relationships.

-Matthew 18:19 "Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven."
Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them."
Presence of God
Psalm 133 - Unity
Blessing in unity = Revival.
Revival: Gods maximum blessing on a particular people in a particular place.

-Anywhere good relationships are with one another, there will be God's blessing. He will command blessing.

-"God visits relationships. Satan visits independence."

-Serve, forgive, love.

-God is wanting to endorse togetherness, team, community, unity.

-Want the blessing of God on your family? Get along.

-Relationship always brings God's presence.

-Don't have to be in occult or witchcraft to allow enemy in
Bad relations welcome enemy.

*Bad relationship to God --> opens door to enemy --> fighting --> petty arguments...

-Sin = Bad relationship. (Enemy comes in)
Righteousness = Good relationship (Enemy's kept out)

-"Everything happening in the world are manifestations of bad relationships!"

-LOVE means satan has no open doors.

-Have good relation's and you'll have blessing.

-Power manifests by Father in heaven.

-When asking God for something (i.e. miracle) and nothing happens, ask again.

-"You stand against evil, not people."

-Never ok to not love your neighbor.

-Don't hurt or damage people.

-Speak against evil, non truth. Don't speak against the person

-"Jesus was a friend with sinners."

-The better relationship you have with people, the more they'll respect your authority and hear what you're doing.

-Religious system misrepresents God.

-Jesus took a relational approach to Gospel.

-"Practice what Jesus did, since He Is the one we are becoming disciples of."

-John 8:1-11
Jesus Forgives an Adulterous Woman
(Read this short story; one of my favorites.)
The woman heard Jesus gladly and respected what He's said.
(He showed her love.)

-"Stop where they stop receiving."
Don't talk AT people.

-Evangelism...
We think we're failing God and being "people pleasers" when we try and push the message past when they're listening.
*He who has an ear to hear... Matthew 13
*No heart to receive/change, I don't want you to understand what I'm getting at, don't want you to go against me.
*Look to see if their heart has hardened, don't antagonize them.
Must have willingness to hear.
*Speak truth into hearts. That's not being a people pleaser.

-When did "Love your God and Love your neighbor" merge in to one command?
When Jesus became a neighbor
*Bethlehem, God became a neighbor
*Matthew 25:40 "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

-Not biblical to make great distinction of loving God or neighbor first; not new testament.

-Go and preach the Gospel. That's his commandment.
*Love God by keeping commandment.

-It's a mistake to love God only and leave people alone.
Sin to leave millions of people alone today, do justice.

-Hebrews 12
All correction is done in love.

-Rebuke and correct within framework of what we have; trust/relationship.

-We assume love has no correction, because society thinks correction means I get away with it.
~Wound of rejection is never corrected.
"We think correction means rejection."
**Apologize for offending someone; repent.

-Prayer.
How many of us think Holy Spirit can correct something almost as good as we can? (Ha.)
First inclination is to talk to someone; this is pride because I have assumed I can talk to someone better than the Holy Spirit can.

-John 14 & 16
Chapters are full of how Jesus explained what Holy Spirit would do on day of Pentecost.
*Jesus only told his disciples to wait for Holy Spirit.
*John 16:8 "When he comes (Holy Spirit), he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement.."
*Convince (or convict) world of sin/righteousness/judgement to come.
- - - - - - - - - -
-Romans 3:23 "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.."
*Often times we think we have to start with "you're a sinner!" - We can't speak truth until there's agreement/understanding.
*100's saved/100's disagree.
*Truth, they're sinners.
They will not receive.
Then they avoid you.
They are angry.
Why do we auto-think that's the way to start?
That's religion.
*"If you don't accept what I'm preaching and you die tonight, you'll go to hell."
Terrorist tactic/manipulation.
- - - - - - - - - - -
-We react in pride.

-Tell the truth in a loving way and at loving time.

-Jesus ate with people not for a particular method (church), it was to build relationship so they'd hear Him (receive His words).

-What if we offend someone?
Pray.
Before. During. After.
*Trust God will do what he said in John 16:8 "When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement.."

-We cannot do things on our own.
We cannot change hearts.
Only thru prayer.

-"I don't have everything I need to do this!"
Jesus says all we need is Holy Spirit.
HE Will convince.

-Nothing can prepare you.
(Years of schooling, seminary, etc.)
Only Holy Spirit.

-Worship.
Learning how to be more yielded and be a channel for God's Holy Spirit.
Only He can guide people in to all truth.

-"We think training starts in the lecture room. No, no, no... Everywhere."

-DTS isn't training heads, it's changing lives.
(Live in community, train in relationships, can't do it alone.)

-YWAM is international and interdenominational because it was planned that way.
Living in good relationship makes you wider channel for Spirit of God.

-Tolerate difference.

-Don't take things personally.
Pray Spirit of God to lay truth on their head.

-Is it loving to not tell your neighbor how they can have eternal life?

- - - - - - - - - - - -

-We need to know our purpose.
*Relationship.
*Love.
*Subdue evil.
Genesis 3
Animals communicated with people, obviously because Eve didn't scream and run away when serpent spoke.
*We are to rule over all animals/plants
*Animal speaking to Eve - Questions her - Why was animal immediately talking about a specific tree?
Because he was able to mess with/mutate a plant - The tree caused death.
*God didn't create us to die.
He never is cause for death.
"I am the resurrection and life"
i.e. I'm not anything to do with death.

Tree caused death.
That's how we know satan created it.
*God protected them and told them don't eat of it.
Satan is interested only in that tree.
Manipulation.
How do we know satan said that?
When talking with unbelievers, they have own religion, view, beliefs - eat of tree and have eyes opened.

-Hebrew.
Good : Function.
Evil : Disfunction.
Knowledge : Experience (Not cognitive)
*You have to experience function and disfunction.

Death = Disfunction.
i.e. Elderly bodies don't function properly.
Experience disfunction.
Alzheimer's, disfunction.
Parkinson's, disfunction.

*Enemy was wrong.
Not good think for us to know disfunction.

-Don't need to experience evil to appreciate good.

-Eve was to subdue evil; had authority in her will to say no.
Eve, obviously did not rule or subdue.
Satan then gained authority to rule/subdue over us.
That's why generations are dying; pain.
We did not subdue evil, now evil is subduing human race.
*God did not allow - He said to subdue in name of Jesus; pray "Kingdom come"!

"Deliver us from the evil one"
"Lead me away from temptation"
Lord's Heart = Lord's prayer.
We have to ask.
That's why we intercede.
We have to subdue/rule. Doesn't happen automatically.

-Model of all Christian praying includes spiritual warfare.

**That concludes my notes from day 1!
SO MUCH to take in.
You may want to read some parts over again, study quoted scripture a bit more, or simply never read this post again :)

I hope you enjoyed it and got some revelation thru Mr. Sherman's teaching.

Try and post Day 3 tomorrow.. and day 2 after the weekend :)

Loving My Neighbor

Went to church last weekend at Calvary Community Church here in Kona, absolutely loved it!
Their current topic is "Loving My Neighbor as Myself" and it absolutely rocked - Here are a few of my notes if you're interested (My notes might not all make sense, bare with me)
:) Enjoy

Luke 10:25-37
-The story of the Good Samaritan-
(NIV)

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher (Jesus), what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How do you read it?"
And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and you neighbor as yourself."
And he said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live."

But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down the road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers"
He said, "The one who showed him mercy."
And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise."

Have you ever read a story in the Bible a million times, and then one day it just makes sense? I've read this story before, but easily forgotten it, this day however, it just hit me.
There are three possible attitudes I can have toward my neighbors.

1: I can keep my distance.
((Referring to the priest))
Avoidance.
Don't get too close to people.
Intentionally avoid getting too close to people; easy to be superficial.
By doing this, I would be avoiding getting hurt.

2: I can be curious but uninvolved.
((Referring to the Levite))
Easier to talk about people's problems than to help them.
-How many time have you known what you should do in a situation, but it's just easier to walk on by? Have compassion in your heart and mind, but not execute it?-
Not letting someone else's problem interfere with your "schedule".

3: I can treat them how I want to be treated.
((Referring to the Samaritan))
v. 33 His heart was filled with pity.
Matthew 7:12 "Always treat others as you would like them to treat you."
It's SO easy to to bypass someone, their problems; hear them talking something out or physically see an issue and first think of OURSELVES. That's not the intention, don't be inward focused.
Yea, you might have a similar story or situation and can easily turn a situation towards your "problem" or "issue" but have compassion.
Take the time to be a friend, whether to a stranger, family member or friend.
There is enough time in the day/your schedule to care for people.
Everything, absolutely everything, is based on relationship.
Everyone craves it, everyone desires it.
Be relational.
Have pity.

How do I start loving my neighbors?

1: I must see their needs.
Love really begins by looking, in the eyes, you have to see the need before you can meet the need.
You can show you care, by being aware.
Look for someone hurting.
Someone alone.
Someone who needs help opening a door!
Look.

1 Corinthians 10:24 (NCV) "Look out for the good of others"

How many times have you seen a car accident?
As your rolling up to the scene you tend to slow down, check out the situation, see what's going on..
"Slower you go, more you'll see - Like an accident on a highway"
Slow down.. Check out your brothers and sisters around you.

Galatians 6:7 (MSG) "The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others.. harvests a crop of weeds. All he'll have to show for his life is weeds."

-Hurry is death of kindness.-

2: I must sympathize with their pain.
When the Samaritan saw him, his heart was filled with compassion.. First your eyes see, then your heart.

Galatians 6:2 (NLT) "Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way you obey the law of Christ."

3: I must seize the moment to help.
Love is a verb.

"The Samaritan used what he had, he wasn't a doctor!"
This is so true, how many times do we see a situation and think "I can't be of any help.."
That's a lie.
Lie lie lie.
Do something.

We must be willing to be interrupted.

Proverbs 3:27-28 "Never walk away from someone who deserves help; your hand is God's hand for that person. Never tell your neighbors to wait until tomorrow if you can help them now."

4: I must move against my fears

Proverbs 11:17 "Your own soul is nourished when you are kind."

Don't think too hard, if you feel you should do something, do it.
Too many times we contemplate whether we have time for someone, the more you think about it, the more the enemy will tell you that you shouldn't do it.
Don't give the enemy room, because he doesn't want you to be kind.

So that was the church service.
Loved it.
Hope you liked some of it :)

Love You All
